Now [in fragments] was commissioned by the Richard Alston Dance Company and written in collaboration with choreographer Ben Wright. A performance for three musicians and 6 dancers. It deals with the power we acquire when we consider our own present moment.
Now [in fragments] is also rewritten for concert performance, the duration of this version is 19 minutes.
“In Van der Aa’s ‘Now’ soprano Andrea Austin Jones was assisted by electronics in combination with clarinets and cello. The well timed piece with an interesting unity of diverse sounds was able to bring about a more serious undertone in a otherwise empty and flat concert.”
