Tour After Life

After Life - Aiden and SarahRoderick Williams

The 2009/2010 tour of the opera After Life, with staged productions in Amsterdam and Lyon, concluded with a semi-staged performance at London’s Barbican Centre. In Amsterdam, De Nederlandse Opera presented a 5-performance revival; Opéra de Lyon produced the work as part of the Lyon Biennale; and at the Barbican it was part of the ‘Present Voices’ series. The nearly sold-out Lyon production in particular attracted a remarkably young audience. The well-attended Barbican production enjoyed massive media attention, from pre-concert publicity to post-concert reviews, eliciting a lively discussion on the essential nature of opera.

about

Michel van der Aa (Netherlands, 1970) is one of Europe’s most sought-after composers today.
For Van der Aa, music is more than organized sound or a structuring of notes. His music has expressive power, combining sounds and scenic images in a play of changing perspectives. Van der Aa’s recent stage works show a successful involvement as a film and stage director as well as composer.
